Grin Garden Kids Dental and Ortho | Burbank, CA

Oral health is key to overall health, especially when it comes to children. Here at Grin Garden, we are strong proponents of preventive measures to control dental disease and orthodontic problems. We strive to provide the best care and services to help smiles grow healthy and strong and last a lifetime.

Starting as early as 6 months, we offer comprehensive infant oral care exams where we discuss all the basics on how to care for you young child’s oral health. We perform a thorough oral exam, brush their teeth and discuss any significant findings. Parents hold their child with Dr. Ivy in the knee to knee position for the best visualization. It is common for children to cry during this visit due to their young age. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), recommend children receive their first dental exam by age 1.

We recommend dental check-ups and cleanings every 6 months. At these visits we will perform an oral exam on your child, check for cavities, check their bite for orthodontic problems, discuss oral hygiene, apply a fluoride treatment and take x-rays only when necessary.

Dr. Ivy is big on prevention and recommends sealants on permanent molars to prevent decay on the deep grooves and fissures.

We offer white fillings, crowns, nerve treatments, extractions and minimally invasive restorative dental options.

Some children may require mild to more advanced sedation options. We offer:

  • Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)
  • Oral conscious sedation
  • IV sedation
Proper occlusion is an essential part of your child’s oral health. We recommend having an orthodontic check up by age 7 to monitor the growth of the jaws and eruption of the teeth. In many instances, orthodontic treatment in young children can help direct the growth of the jaws to ensure proper eruption of the permanent teeth. In addition to creating a beautiful smile, establishing a healthy bite with orthodontic treatment also minimizes the risk of wear to the teeth, recession of the gums, and long term straining of the jaw.

Tooth decay can be managed a number of different ways, from traditional dental restorations to minimally invasive dentistry.  Dr. Ivy believes in a minimal approach that is within the standard of care, especially for very young children.

Some minimally invasive dental techniques that Dr. Ivy practices  are: application of Sodium Diamine Fluoride, interim therapeutic restorations (ITR), SMART technique restorations, Hall crowns, ICON Resin Infiltration, use of prescription fluoride toothpaste and fluoride treatments. Dr. Ivy is always in search for new, minimally invasive and evidence based techniques to help her patients receive the best, individualized care possible.

Our practice values each individual child, and we recognize that children with special health care needs require a dental practice that is open and understanding. Children with special health care often experience a higher risk of oral diseases which can effect their quality of life and long term health. Each of our patients are treated on a case by case basis with a particular emphasis on their specific needs.
